Brent's Ponderings on Luke 1-2

Here are some of my thoughts and questions that came up as a read Luke 1-2.

  • From the introduction, Luke 1:1-4, it mentions that many have undertaken to draw an account. This would imply that at the time there was much discussion about this man Jesus. How is it that Luke’s account will lead to Theophilus knowing the certainty of what he has been thought. Is this Luke’s authority or the authority of the account since scripture is God breathed.
  • What was the purpose of Gabriel silencing Zachariah for not believing?
  • Since Zachariah was silent what sort of sherade did he have to do to communicate to his wife that they were going to have a baby named John that would….?
How does the question that Zachariah asks differ from the one that Mary asks, Luke 1:18, 34.
  • Zachariah was silenced for not believing, yet Mary got an answer? How does this relate to the appropriateness of the questions that we ask God in times of not knowing how things are going to look.
  • Was some of the fruit of Zachariah being silent, the fact that he started to praise God once he could first start to speak?
  • I find myself focusing on the fact that both Mary and Zachariah’s songs both focus on the character of God. Both saw a clear picture of God’s nature and how that relates to the child they would be raising.
